Why this reference exists
Printed Stratford resident directories became less central as records moved into separate systems, but the underlying material remains. The Stratford Town Clerk holds land records, maps, trade names, election filings, and local certificates. The Assessor connects parcels to owners, the voter system supplies a limited registration view, and the library research page identifies city directories, newspapers, yearbooks, and town reports. The State Library and Historical Society add older guides, archives, images, and history.
Those sources answer different questions. A deed names parties to a recorded transaction. A parcel card identifies an owner-of-record. A directory places a subscriber or household in a particular year. A court index points to a case role. A professional credential is checked separately through the state's eLicense verification instructions. Bringing those distinctions together makes local research clearer without pretending that one database is a complete resident list.
What the pages offer
- Address work: the Street Directory follows USPS, GIS, Vision, SearchIQS, permits, and older address sources.
- Historical collections: the Directory Book explains Stratford Library, Library of Congress, newspaper, census, and archive routes.
- One-person research: the Resident Lookup separates owner, voter, court, probate, vital, business, and historical roles.
- Postal geography: the ZIP Codes page verifies 06614 and 06615 through USPS and returns to parcel keys.
- Local context: the Previous Residents and Neighbors pages follow a parcel backward or expand from one block.
- Access rules: pages point to the Connecticut FOI Act, state privacy limits, protected records, and the custodian that controls a copy.
